An Anatomy of Buhari’s Change for Nigerians

The word ‘CHANGE’ has been the anthem of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since the beginning of their campaign up to the time they won election on 28th March and 11th April 2015. The ‘Change’ has since become a household name to anyone who loves General Buhari as a leader with concern for people’s welfare.

The word ‘Change’ is not an easy word to define but can be explained to mean ‘to make a nature or content different from what it is. It can also be said to be ‘the process of becoming different’. With indeterminate clear meaning of the word change, it is not surprising that many commentators, writers and political analysts and a man on the street give the word ‘Change’ a meaning of their wishful thinking. But the brand of Buhari’s change is about good governance for the benefit of the larger society. It is a change from state of injustice to the state of justice for all, it is a change in the interest of present and future Nigeria, it is a change from stagnation to growth and sustainable development, it is a change from indiscipline and disorderly to disciplined and orderly Nigerians, it is a change from low productivity to higher productivity nation, it is a change from corrupt society to honest and sincere society etc. In fact, the majority of Nigerians that voted Buhari into power have done so simply because they believe in his sincerity, honesty and his incorruptible posture over a long period of time to date to bring change that will impact their lives. During his electioneering campaign, he assured Nigerians that he will address challenges and issues that are hindering the provision of basic amenities to them, insecurity of their lives and properties, address corruption issue and unemployment among others.

From his long accepted character and life style, Buhari will never fight a war (as General) knowing he will gain nothing after winning. This is a war Buhari is out to win and gain for a well thought direction for change and not on a simplistic meaning people give to the word change. From what I have read and heard from Gen. Buhari, his idea of change is for the common good towards improving the quality of life of Nigerians in a sustainable manner through a change from bad governance to good governance.

According to development literature, Good governance is a government that observes rule of law, participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive. It assures that corruption is minimized, the views of minorities are taken into account and that the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision-making. It is also responsive to the present and future needs of society.

General Buhari’s government will ensure fair legal frameworks that are enforced impartially. It will also ensure full protection of human rights, particularly those of minorities, impartial enforcement of laws and will establish independent judiciary, an impartial and incorruptible police force and all other security operatives.

Buhari’s government will practice community participatory budgeting and planning that is to say bottom-top approach as against top-bottom approach. This will ensure addressing the real felt needs of the people with their full participation, thus, providing their needs and welfare in a sustainable manner.

The APC government will ensure equity and inclusiveness as a change to provide opportunity for all Nigerians. Considering the fact that majority of Nigerians particularly the less privileged and poor people voted for APC with Gen. Buhari as the president-elect, the new government comes May 29th in its change drive will ensure that Nigerian’s well being will be improved and will be carried along as stakeholders in decision making process in true democratic environment.

The government will give all communities in Nigeria particularly the minority, less privileged and poor people, opportunities to improve or maintain their well being. Indeed, 2015 election was truly democratic where majority of Nigerians voted candidates of their choice to lead and manage their affairs.
Change for APC government is to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the management of public resources. Public resources were mismanaged, no budget discipline, contracts awarded at will with little concern if any to due process.

Good governance means that processes and institutions produce results that meet the needs of society while making the best use of resources at their disposal. The concept of efficiency in the context of good governance also covers the sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of the environment. This is in tune with President-elect’s intent to improve the quality of life of all Nigerians through well designed people’s oriented policies and programs to be implemented, monitored and evaluated to ensure good result in the most efficient manner. In fact, fiscal responsibility and public procurement laws will be fully implemented for efficient management of public funds for the benefit of Nigerians as against the few in Nigeria today.

Change to Buhari in the public service is to improve performance of civil service for higher productivity. Change in the public service and civil servants, it will not be business as usual. The change will be from I don’t care attitude to better performance in providing service delivery and higher productivity for sustainable development.

The public sector under Gen. Buhari like the private will be vision and mission driven. The civil service will be result oriented.

Millennium Development Goals (MDG), NEPAD, Vision 202020, APC policy recommendations for all the sectors should form the basis for Strategic and operational plans with their monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plans for implementation. These will be the driving tools for providing services in all the sectors of the economy for sustainable development.

The government will sanitize and continue to implement Nigeria Public Service Reform initiated by the former president Olusegun Obasanjo. However, there are some laudable on-going reforms that the President-elect could consider to continue. For example, public service reform in Nigeria 1999-2007, health sector reform/national health strategic development plan/primary health care under one roof/ward health system and many more reforms. Many State governments have started implementing the said reforms. The APC Government should support these reforms in the interest of Nigerians. All sectors/MDAs should be vision and mission driven with community participation in budgeting and planning, tracking and monitoring implementation for result.
The Vision Statement is:

“Public Governance by a Public Service Driven by Public Officers of Impeccable Character and Integrity, Custodians of National Interests and Values, Experts in the Business of Government and the Management of Resources and Talents, for Efficient Service Delivery and Accelerated National Development to Meet the Challenges of a Globalized World”.
The Mission Statement is to:
“Build a Public Service that is performance and results oriented, customer driven, investor friendly, professional, technologically sensitive, accountable, fostering partnerships with all stakeholders and committed to a continuous improvement in Government business and the enhancement of overall national productivity”.

The President-elect during his electioneering campaign stated that if elected his government will only work with qualified, committed and honest people. This is in line with the vision and mission of public sector reform in Nigeria sighted above. The said reform is the new direction for all Nigerian public and private sector to fully implement so as to move the country forward, improve quality of people’s life and ensure sustainable development.

The concept of selfless service, discipline and concern for humanity are virtually gone, today it is self service, indiscipline and poor concern for others. Under Gen. Buhari’s government a democratized form of War Against Indiscipline is highly desirable through teaching moral and civic education in schools and homes, re-orientation of Nigerians to be patriotic and humanitarian making life easier for others. During Buhari’s regime, the concept and practice of leadership will be taught in schools so as to have good leaders in the future. Honest leaders and followers will be identified and rewarded and corrupt ones will be sanctioned as deterrent.

A well known business icon and philosopher, Thomas A. Edison characteristically said, ‘there is a better way of doing things-find it’. Edison could probably had Buhari in mind because the General has indeed found the way by his intent to apply the ideals of good governance in running his government to bring the desired change for the benefit of Nigerians comes May 29th 2015. However, all Nigerians have to be patient and supportive to APC government led by Gen. Buhari allowing him and his lieutenants, reasonable time to repair the damages done to the system. We should know change is gradual and takes time to realize it. God blesses the Federal Republic of Nigeria and guide all the leaders elect to serve the interest of Nigerians making life easier for them for now and future.

Ebola! True or Fulse

Ebola! True or fulse?
the Liberian passenger 'Patrick Sawyer' who was said to have brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria!

Have any Nigerian ever asked him self this question:-
From the Liberian airport of which he boarded a plane to Nigeria;  How many Nigerian passengers did he came in contact with?

For those of us who are familiar with airport procedures before boarding a plane, we know everything has to do with Que, nobody is attended to individually. So please Nigerians do the maths! How many Nigerians did he came in contact with?

From the Liberian airport, throught plane, to the Nigerian airport, How many Nigerians did he came in contact with?

Are they all infected?
Or what are they telling us?

“A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking. Because her trust is not in the branch but in her own wings. Believe in yourself.”

I woke up one morning having the feelings I want to become an entrepreneur, but to come to think of it, how would I define myself as an entrepreneur?
I went into series of research about how to become an entrepreneur, and here is what I came up with.
First I need to know what is an entrepreneur?
Acting like an entrepreneur within a larger organization. The term is derived from a combination of "intra" or internal, and "entrepreneurship." Entrepreneurs are usually highly self-motivated, proactive and action-oriented people who are comfortable with taking the initiative, even within the boundaries of an organization, in pursuit of an innovative product or service.
Behavioral Characteristics of Entrepreneurship.
Behavioral characteristics of entrepreneurship include initiative, an ability to "think outside the box", risk-taking and leadership - all traits that are also possessed by successful entrepreneurs. The major difference between entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs is that the fruits of success default to the organization rather than to the entrepreneur. On the other hand, the entrepreneur also has the comfort of knowing that failure will not have a personal cost - as it would for an entrepreneur - since the organization would absorb losses arising from failure.
Many Nigerian youths dream of starting their own businesses, but not everyone is cut out for this line of work. Being employed by someone else offers a slew of advantages, from health insurance and matching retirement contributions to a regular schedule and the company of coworkers.
If you're thinking about striking out on your own, consider carefully whether you have what it takes to be successful.
Entrepreneurs: Nature or Nurture?
Are good leaders made or are they born? No one knows for sure, but successful entrepreneurs tend to share these traits:
Discipline
To be successfully self-employed, you'll need to have the discipline to set work hours, meet deadlines, pursue new clients and avoid tempting distractions like your TV.
Frugality
To prevent yourself from going broke when your business is new or times are slow, you must be willing to cut back, sometimes way back, on your spending. Remaining self-employed has to be a top priority above buying new clothes or other niceties. It's a good idea to be frugal not just in slow months, but in the good ones as well to give yourself a well-padded savings account that can tide you over when your business isn't generating income.
Self-Confidence
In order to successfully sell yourself to others, you have to be your own biggest fan. If you don't believe you're one of the best at what you do, no one else will either. Business will rarely just fall into your lap, so you'll need to be willing to promote yourself and ask for work whenever and wherever possible.
Good Communication Skills
Clients won't always make their expectations crystal clear. Rather than guessing what they want, you must not be afraid to ask lots of questions. It's also a good idea to ask for feedback during and after assignments to make sure you're meeting your clients' expectations.

Five Chart Patterns you need to know…
Humility
Few clients will expect you to be perfect, but if you can't fess up and apologize when you make a mistake, you'll get crossed off their lists.
Honesty and Integrity
When you're self employed, your reputation is crucial. You don't have the image of a company to fall back on or make up for the occasional bad employee. You are the company and you are the employee. Everything you do needs to reflect well on your business.
Superb Record-Keeping Skills
It's very important to know when you sent out invoices, when you were paid, who still owes you money, how much money your business has, how much you have made and how much you need to make. Detailed, accurate records are critical to the financial health of your business and are indispensable for tax purposes.
Motivation
You won't become a successful business person by watching TV all day. Even when you think you have a day to relax, don't put your assignments off until the last minute. It's better to get as much done as you can when things appear to be slow because you never know what the next day will bring. Also, forget about turning all your work in on the due date and plan to turn some work in early instead. The faster you complete an assignment, the faster you can move on to the next one, which means more money in your pocket. Beating the occasional deadline also instills confidence in your clients that you can be relied upon. It probably goes without saying that missing a deadline is not acceptable except in the most extreme circumstances.
Flexibility
Some times will be busier than others, and assignments will arise unexpectedly. You have to be willing to rearrange both your business and work schedule to accommodate your clients' requests.
Ability to Set Boundaries
While it is a good idea to maintain some degree of flexibility, you also must set boundaries and realistic expectations with your clients. These things don't need to be done explicitly, but rather will become the norm as you teach people how to treat you. Don't answer your phone or email after business hours, don't accept unreasonable deadlines or insurmountable workloads and don't let clients negotiate your invoices down or refuse to pay after the work is done.

Good Health
Self-employment does not offer paid sick days, so you'll have to work when you're sick, make up the hours later or accept the lost pay. You also must be able to afford your own health insurance, which may include providing health insurance for your spouse and kids, too.

Ability to Create Balance
For workaholic types, working at home means it's difficult to know when to stop and take a break. For those who are better at relaxing, it's equally challenging to get out of lounge mode and start working. Regardless of which category you fall into, when you work for yourself, you'll have to push yourself outside of your comfort zone to keep your work life and personal life in balance.
Optimism
You won't always have a lot of work and you won't get all the assignments or clients you want. You have to keep pursuing work, maintain a positive mindset and not take the rejections personally or you'll soon find yourself in a cubicle filling out a W4.
The Bottom Line
Personal characteristics will have a major influence on your potential to succeed as an entrepreneur. Before taking a financial and career risk, make sure to assess whether your personality will contribute to or hinder your prosperity.

I will finish with this, if he can, she can, you also can do it.

Fact About Whatsapp you should all know.

"Here are some shocking facts about WhatsApp you should know ! Do you know the existence of sms has almost vanished in
countries like Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, UK, Singapore and Russia. In these countries
income from sms subscriptions is decreasing rapidly. What is the reason behind this massive change..? Yes.. You are right its
because of our favorite WhatsApp. More than 250 million active users, 27 billion message transfer(s) in a single day. These
are some statistics of  WhatsApp and these numbers are obviously increasing day by day. But some countries like Indonesia,
India, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and China still uses the sms service at larger scale.

In 2009 after leaving Yahoo Brian Acton and Jan Koum developed and introduced WhatsApp to the world. WhatsApp is
available for Android, BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, iOS, Series 40, Symbian (S60), and Windows Phone.
It uses a customized version of the open standard Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP).

The Big Question arises “Is Message Transfer Secure..?”

In may 2011, security specialist found that the message transfer on WhatsApp is not encrypted so if anyone succeeded to
hack he/she can easily read your messages. After finding this vulnerability WhatsApp announced the Updated version with
encryption technology.

January 6, 2012 an unknown hacker published a website called WhatsAppStatus.net through this site anyone could easily
change the status of an arbitrary whatsapp user, as long as the phone number was known.

One of the main Shocking Facts about WhatsApp is “When you download
WhatsApp your entire phonebook (contact list) get uploaded to their servers”

.. Just think when your family members (brother/ sister) handle your phone you don’t like it because your personal chats and
information is easily viewable. Then what about your entire contact list.???

Stiftung Warentest reported that Whatsapp is sending the whole phonebook unencrypted to a US server where it gets stored.

Julian Assange and Edward Snowden already proved that “No information can be kept secret” . So I can’t say stop using
WhatsApp but i just want to say that stay alert about your WhatsApp activities and of course share this information with your
dear ones."
